Excessive use of foreign oil
goal: reducing our imports of oil by one-third in a little over a decade.
We need to use the economic system to leverage individual financial decisions to drive down the use of petroleum and increase the use of alternative energy sources.
One way would be to increase the gasoline tax to discourage the use of gasoline and increase the competitiveness of alternatives.
The increase tax revenue would also assist in balancing the annual federal budget.
goal: balance between increasing domestic energy production and reducing energy waste.
We need smaller cars for commuting to and from work and large cars for taking the family on trips.
Small plugin electric cars should be good for commuting and hybrid cars should be good for trips.
Nuclear power should backup solar and wind generation for powering the plugin cars and home heat/cooling.
