Each individual is born with the capability to do good and harm. Each decision made is important in forming the life time measure of the individual. Self interest is very important for the survival of the individual, carried to the extreme, self interest is the down fall of the individual and is the root source of original sin.
A little self interest is a good thing.
Advancing oneself at the expense of others is not a good thing. To intentionally do harm is evil.
The fundamental human flaw is excessive self interest - when self interest justifies exploiting others.
To avoid sin, we must live our lives to help ourselves and others.
Follow the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
